Camp Troll

Camp Troll is a small, dedicated snowmobile outfit based by the Svensby ferry terminal in Lyngen, surrounded by some of Northern Norway's most dramatic mountains. While most operators run petrol machines, they pioneered electric snowmobile tours in Norway — and that one choice changes everything. The machines are near silent: you hear the skis on the trail and the wind over the fjord, not an engine. Tours travel at a calm pace of around 20 km/h, built for taking in the Lyngen Alps rather than rushing past them. The full experience lasts about two and a half hours and complete beginners are welcome: thermal suits, boots, helmets and full instruction are provided, there is a hot drink stop on the trail, and the tour ends with locally produced soup around the campfire. Two guests share a machine and swap drivers halfway, children from 7 can join with an adult, and the season runs December to March. Our dog sledding tours are quiet by nature — paws on snow and eager huskies are the whole soundtrack. Camp Troll is the first snowmobile operator we have met that preserves that same silence, and their commitment to low-impact tourism mirrors our own. Small groups, patient guides, proper gear and warm soup by the fire: that is the standard we want for our guests wherever we send them.
